my DIY Toddy style cold brewer
So I put a hole in the bottom of a $6 storage container from Target, plugged it with a modified wine bottle cork, and called it a Stoddy.. heh. First trial run last night.
(0.5 lb beans + 4.5 cups water) * 16 hours = 600 ml coffee concentrate It’s not the smoothest toddy I’ve had, but not a bad trial. I planned for it to brew 12hrs, but didn’t really time that right for...

DIY portafilter pressure gauge
The idea of this is from a thread on Home-Barista that is often cited in topics about brew pressure, yet I’m too lazy to find it.
While i was waiting for the gauge to come, I tried to estimate and adjust the OPV without one (using blind filter, measure ml/s from valve on my digital scale, convert units). Turns out i got pretty close to the 9 Bar that way.. :) I use my scale for EVERYTHING...

“Hey man, are you still in Pittsburgh? I need a fake mustache by Wednesday.”
I like that there are just some people from whom a serious request like this does not seem unusual at all. Apparently Pittsburgh has the best mustaches.

A crazy awesome set of signed and numbered cups/saucers from Illy! It was a gift. The cups reflect the art off of the saucers. There are 6 and each are different. Here’s the one with a kitty.
And check this one out, with a shot that was actually pretty much drinkable.. ;)
So far the highlight has been when I tried to knock some bubbles out of the steam pitcher, and shot a...
Oh, btw.

hahahahahahah..hahah.. hah… ohhhhh.
so in love with this grinder already.
muy. muuuuyyy.
two things i’m not crazy about. 1) The straight arm steam wand. It’s on a 360deg joint, but the range of motion is still pretty small. 2) The tiny drip tray!
cute hot water dispenser
also exciting: the brush that Mazzer included matches my...

It’s hailing.
This afternoon I was driving down MLK Blvd listening to some happy music. It’s a cool day, but the sun is shining and the breeze is fleeting. I was feeling good as I anticipated my espresso and debated whether I should get an oatmeal-raisin cookie, or maybe some kind of muffin to accompany it.
THEN THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME’S FUCKING WHEEL FELL OFF!
His front-left wheel completely...

What do you do when you find yourself in proximity to a guy who looks like it could be this one guy you sorta know, except you don’t really remember that tattoo, and his beard probably would not have grown that much in a week. Hey, what if he’s that guy’s brother?
Man, that looks like that one guy!! I’m going to go ask somebody.
how adorable
A couple weeks in a row on friday afternoon these two old dudes have come into phoenix and sat at the table near me. Today the one guy said hello to me, noting that I’m always here.
They seem like old buddies. They talk about The War (you know, the second one), and old bomber planes. They talk about traveling, and current affairs.. for hours! And they get real excited about it all.
I...
Who is your favorite author?
Not that this is the most original thought or anything, but for the sake of a short, rare rant I have the following problems with account security questions.
Most stock questions are too easy. There are a million ways to find out my cat’s name, or what city I was born in. Does anyone consider that private? As a result, I have at times tried to pick somewhat tricky answers. Tricky enough...

I got a blender
A middle of the line blender with a red base (to match the toaster, coffee maker, and back-up microwave). I also got a ton of smoothie making ingredients.
Brian and I just had some fairly tasty green smoothies. A big banana, a little strawberry yogurt, a couple handfulls of baby spinach leaves, a kiwi, some ginger root, and just a tad of soymilk to help it blend. It was good. maybe a little...
This makes me miss Jane.
apparently I say numbered street names funny? like, 105th = “one oh fifth” and not usually “one hundred and fifth”
uses less syllables! i mean since you are born with a fixed number of syllables to use in your life and all.
She better be drunk, or joking, or getting punched in the face.

jizz.c is an old ip spoofer. Also i wonder if it’s just that the router there was running a newer BIND?
If you are currently living in the ’90s and know the answer, lemmie know kplzthxgoal.

Two old men
There are currently two old men sitting (independently) in this coffee shop. One has been sitting quite still for 20 minutes with a coffee in a to-go cup, which he has not touched. He looks terribly bored. The other has been carefully examining some kind of knob (like one might twist to turn the water on or off behind the sink), for a good hour; sometimes he puts his hat (wide brim) on for a...
Look, I'm sorry, BUT
I just can’t claim to be a very big fan of pasta salads.
This is why I hate books
What comes after page 152? Is it page 121? No.
*opens book, finds page 152, looks to the right, finds page 121 is next*
My copy of The Great Gatsby repeats pages 121-152 after the first page 152 and does not feature the book’s conclusion.
FAIL
I’m having weird dreams about espresso lately. And making (WARNING: PUN ALERT) homebrew espresso gadgets (IT’S OK, PUN IS OVER).
So far this afternoon I’ve seen a man hobbling along with one leg, and a man with an eye patch hanging around outside the coffee shop.
Memories… They have a way of sticking with you..

smoke detectors
Brian boiled water and our house got super pissed off about it. my room was going “FIRE! FIRE!” and the other smoke alarms were beeping as loudly as they can. Damien hid under my bed for like an hour. Big kitty was just pissed.
At least we won’t sleep through any fires.

expensive gas
I usually feed my new car the highest grade when I fill up. But, not when I saw it on the Indiana turnpike for $4.22/gal (i swear!). :O
